| “About Us” 2009 Lucas Oil-K&N Filters Super Comp Association In 1998 participants of the regional Super Comp Series and the NHRA races expressed an interest in competing more as they just couldn’t get enough racing in. They wanted to race many more weekends, 2-day races, and the challenge was there. Mr. Jack DeRencin, decided to take on the quest and add another venue to satisfy the desires of the many 8.90 drag racers. The Super Comp Association of Southern California filled a void by offering more weekend races, more sponsor participation, and bigger payouts. It didn’t fair to well in the beginning, the first race had eleven cars, freezing cold rain, snow, hale and it didn’t get much better for the next three years. By the sixth season the car counts were averaging over forty cars, then a racer suggest that the association put together an attractive sponsorship proposal and send them out to large corporations seeking financial backing. Dozens were sent out to Casino’s, Car Dealerships, Hospitals, Performance Equipment Manufactures, Distributors, Computer Companies. Oil Companies, Cellular Phone Companies you name it. The racers idea was answered by Lucas Oil Products, a meeting was organized and a contract was made, a great generous sponsor wanted to be the Title Right Name Sponsor, the car counts increased that year to fifty plus and continue several years on, the purse increased, other sponsors wanted to support the sportsman racers and the association. After the ninth season the Super Comp Association of Southern California was blessed again. A huge manufacturer and drag racing sponsor notice the hard work, the large car counts, the internet and newspaper press, they wanted to support the sportsman racers. K&N Filters became the Co-Title Name Sponsor and has continued on today. 2009 is the twelfth season of the Lucas Oil-Super Comp Association sponsored by K&N Filters, and the car counts have increased in the sixty plus cars. We pride ourselves with excellent payouts, contingency sponsors, large corporations supporting the sportsman racers, racers winning a Super Comp Association Championship, becoming a repeat Champion, advancing through the ranks to the Top Alcohol, and Top Fuel classes. With the racers support and corporate support, the Super Comp Association will continue to grow and be the largest Super Comp organization in America, and making many more World Champions. |
