Disappointing News from Auto Club Dragway
Disappointing would be an understatement concerning the news about
Auto Club Dragway in Fontana.  Less than a month since the bad news
about Irwindale Raceways closure, the court ruled that the drag strip
should be closed until a judgement is made in the future.
According to the Auto Club Dragway website:

"A Superior Court has suspended operation of the Auto Club Dragway.
The suspension results from a successful challenge of a San Bernardino
County sound standard by a group of concerned residents.  San
Bernardino County officials had approved an amendment to the County
Sound Standard in 2010 to accommodate louder sound arising from races
at the Dragway.  The Superior Court found that the underlying
Environmental Impact Report which the County relied on to approve the
sound standard amendment was not sufficient.

We are currently reviewing the court ruling and evaluating our options
moving forward. We hope to have more detailed information about our
future operations at the Dragway soon".

A recent hearing in San Bernardino (April 10) reportedly brought some
hope and understanding by the judge, but this case has a long way to go
before being resolved.
Another sad day for SoCal drag
    racers
    April 12, 2012
It was sad to read the memo from Jack DeRencin this morning
concerning the fate of our Lucas Oil/SoCal Super Comp Association.
I think most reasonable people living in Southern California only knew
it was a matter of time that the “SoCal” option was nearing an end.
The Fontana drag strip fiasco has taken a severe toll on everyone
involved.  Our only hope is that someday the drag strip will re-open.

If it is decided that someone else would like to take over operation of
the association, it will be announced on this site.
